Have now become office based again after a stint of using our fine motorway network. No longer need company car so looking for something fun for the 20 mile round commute and hoons on evenings and weekends.

Open to anything, especially the unusual. I enjoy acceleration and good cornering ability as well as reliability where possible. Economy isnt a worry what with petrol at these stupidly low prices!

I highly recommend a 1.7 Puma, hands down the most fun car I have owned, although not all that quick, its nippy.

I had a FTO Mivec, which was very quick (by my standards) but not as much 'Fun' as the Puma.

I am currently searching for a Mk2 MR2 Turbo, have been told there fun but more of a 'technical kind of car', should be very quick too

Left field ideas: C36 AMG, 200sx, V6 GTV, Fiat Coupe Turbo etc

Clio 172 Phase 1 or Phase 2 Cup

Toyota MR2 Turbo (try to get a Rev 3)

MX5 (someone had to say it!)

Peugeot 106 Rallye

Toyota Celica GT4 or T-Sport

Classic Impreza WRX or STI

A Renaultsport Clio might be good fun. They have a bit of poke, whilst also being very economical. My 182 never drops below 35mpg. The only trouble is, will it be enjoyable enough! I was out for a nice hoon in mine today and could not stop thinking how much more fun I would have had in my old MX5. So maybe consider a '5.

I had a MX-5 last summer and it was fantastic fun, would like to try something different.

There are a few 106 Rallyes with a 1.6 engine. I know these will have a 'sorted' chassis etc but are they quick?

Personally I find the Clio just as much fun, just in a different (faster) way.

I think it is the faster way that spoils it for me. It is very easy to get up to the speed limit on a b road. Maybe I need to find a road with lots of tight bends!

I see your point. Although I'd take the '5 for the really tight bendy stuff (RWD shenanigans!)

I do know of somebody who has a red Mazda RX-8 for sale. An early 53 plate car done 60, with an engine replacement under warranty in 2008. FSH with accompanying receipts.

£1,500. Can that be beaten??

I'd probably agree.

Thirsty and expensive to run, but if that's not an issue, you'll not do much better.

Beautiful and left field, I like a lot but it is too far and too much. Good spot
