Rust on a suspension spring - should I be concerned?

Just bought off ebay, was going to be fitted tomorrow. Only one spring is like that. I do see other springs on ebay for the 172 rusting in the same place. Is this anything to concern myself with, I won't bother fitting them if it is. The peeling bit appears to just be a coating of some kind.

The peeling stuff is powder coating. Corrosion on springs is not ideal as it introduces stress raisers, meaning the spring is more likely to develop fatigue cracks and ultimately snap.

And the springs can always be stripped and re-coated for ~£25

So it doesn't matter then? Saying that, I'm toying whether to get Eibach Pro springs instead as I've read good things about it.

Even if it went, the odds are the corner it's glued to would just start bouncing a bit. You would be very, very unlucky to have a problem. Even so, it's not going to go. Bit of inhibitor or if you're a PH'er, get it recoated or replaced. On a Renault I'd be more worried about rusty springs.

I often wondered how bits of semi coil like steel got on the road. Then I bought a Laguna and joined a Renault forum!

I've got Eibach pro springs and have had for 8 years, they're a bit rusty. As are the original springs on my dads 1952 Austin.
Haven't lost a coil yet!

I have only had springs snap on one car and that was my Renault I don't know if it's the same on your car as it's a very well known problem on the laguna, but then there are lots of problems in general with the laguna.
Maybe it's worth putting a different make set of springs on your car.
Mine went when the car was 4 years old.
