I've just been out to put something in the big bins and there is a chap up a portable scaffold tower repointing the gable end. For those non buildery types this involves grinding out all the brick mortar with an angle grinder and replacing.

He has done a grand job of coating the 10 cars parked in the back of the health centre in a thick coating of brick dust. Some of these motors belong to the GP's, nurses and are reasonably decent cars.

My car isn't parked up there but I just wondered what other peoples reactions would be to coming out to find your (*recently detailed) pride and joy covered in brick dust....I think I would kick off!!

I think I'd be annoyed with myself that I'd left my car there when scaffolding was present. The guy has to do a job, and wandering round the surrounding offices notifying people will just waste time.

My car got completely covered in dust when parked next to works once, I was annoyed but it was pretty inevitable really.

Next day (I'd moved my car) I saw some workers hosing down the cars that were still there smile

As has been said, the guy can't exactly ask everyone to move or cover everyones cars with dust sheets. As long as its just the dust and not chunks of angle grinder fired mortor it should just hose off anyway.

Massive thread about this type of thing in the Pork forum a while back. Contractor ended up paying out for all the cars to be detailed iirc.
