In some ways they make sense - quicker to say or type - but does anybody else cringe when they are used?

  • The '5 - used for MX-5s and saw it used this evening for an Integra (DC5?)
  • Teg
  • 'Ro - I find this one toe curlingly embarrassing!
  • RS - well, it's a Ford, but Escort? Sierra? Focus? etc.
  • Fezza - Fiesta / Ferrari?
Any others? Or am I on my own? paperbag

For the 30 milliseconds saved in putting a retarded abbreviation, not only does whoever types it make themselves look a weapons grade bellend, but they also confuse pretty much everyone who then reads their post.

I can't agree with that. Any reference to the NSU Ro 80 has to be a good thing.

Now you mention it, I do find references to BMW 1 / 3 / 5 Series cars as "1 'er / 3 'er" and such like, not embarrassing per se, just worthy of a *sigh*

Not sure if I'm due a "whoosh" but I believe it it's an abbreviation of "Monaro" :shudder:

That's how they're described in German though.

I've heard 'The Burg' for an Astra VXR Nurburgring Edition. That's pretty cringe-worthy.

The 3 er and 5 er banter seems to be PH specific from what I cam gather. Potentially, and likely, used on BMW forums too but I don't use them!
The germans do say it like that, as when I go for a macdonals here I ask for 9 er nugget menu. I wonder if the people who use that banter know how to pronounce any of it??
