What car or What van?

My problem is I occasionally need a decent load carrier, for which a the moment I use our works van. However the van is being used only 2 times a week a the most and as such is a waste of money. So I intend to get rid and get a vehicle as my everyday car that can double up a load carrier. I've looked at crew cab vans Merc Vitos and VW but these are silly money for a tarted up van. Next choice is people carrier, but if I get one I would like a bit of poke so Zafira VXR or S Max 2.5t.

Is there anything I'm forgetting that could do what I require?

The SMax is a surprisingly good drive, no idea about the Zafira though.
