Rivals to the Clio trophy
Discussion
Hey
Just thinking about what car I'm going to trade my C2 in for and relly love the Clio trophy but can't really think of what else I'd really like, thought about an integra, boxster even a lotus talbot but still drawn to the clio.
So what would you guys say is a good rival to the trophy, budget will definitely not be more than £6,000.
Cheers

Surely theres a list as long as my arm! Main rival being a CTR?
6k will give you a huge choice of cars.
S3,Astra GSI, Corsa VXR, Golf GTI, Mk4 Golf R32, Focus RS mk1, Megane 225, Leon Cupra R, Ibiza Cupra...
Was just typing up a list that includes just about all that StottyZr has mentioned. Golf V GTI, Focus RS Mk1 and the Megane 225 would be topping my list.6k will give you a huge choice of cars.

As a driving tool though, the Trophy has them all licked. Barring perhaps the Focus, it'll show them all a clean pair of heels in the twisty stuff (I used to have an RS back in the day).
I'm just back from the Ring with mine and apart from lacking in a bit of straight line speed, it was an absolute hoot!!
If was after a hatchback I too would be after a Focus RS mk1 or Clio Trophy as both are fantastic cars and if looked after should not really loose any value either. However could get a mint Trophy for 6k or a leggy RS so would go with the Trophy myself. If you wanted something quicker in a straight line decent Focus ST's will be down to this money very soon with the introduction of the new model I would think.

DC5 is a bit funny on insurance, a DC2 is fine but some jap cars can be a bit weird with insurance. I'll be 21 when changing my car.
Thats alright then as a DC2 is a better steer anyway
For me, really the Focus RS, Racing Puma, and DC2 are really the main rivals, given that the Trophy was a desirable limited edition, I just think its got something a bit extra (rarity?) over its more mainstream, mass produced rivals (like CTR, LCR etc etc).

I'd have thought £6K will get you very ropey examples of those cars.6k will give you a huge choice of cars.

There are many cars listed above that are far better than the clio. Depends if you want fwd, rwd or 4wd. The only clio worth considering (imo) is the v6.
For a direct competitor the civic type r is a much better package.
I'd love a V6 but need the space, I have looked at civics but don't find them as attractive. For a direct competitor the civic type r is a much better package.
(on my god a normal answer from you! Sorry
) I would think a dc2 Integra is in the same vein as a driving experience,Dc5 too (not the same pricerange thought) but the Dc2 being more raw compares it more directly to the Trophy.
There is the Megane R26.r as another equivalent for all about the driving experience but i think that is way off your pricerange.
As the Trophys are newer, and more fun IMO,id say get a Trophy, most of the owners care about them so they look after doing all the maintenance, once the dampers are refurbed the car drives like new.
