I always wanted a project to work on while off the road - something like old bmw coupe or 635csi - rather than taking bits off just to put hem back on before morning commute to work...
Now my friend is leaving the country and he want's get rid of and old polo which failed it's mot on few bits but overall it's in good condition and is free from rust - he want's £200 for it - now I never been a fan of polo's a rather have another mk2 golf or b5 passat but a polo would suit my tight budget and I could do something crazy to it - like small v8 in the back or maybe some turbo power under the bonnet? Basically i could go wild with what I find on ebay and develop it as I go without any sense of direction smile?
I have no major experience in building car's 'from scratch' but looking at various build threads (like twin engined lupo for example) I always though - I could do that...I'm handy with all tools and learning quick + have loads space in my garage to do it...soo...
What could I do to an old polo? And how easy/dificult it could be...
Please submit your idea with rating from 1-10 in terms of difficulty (in your own opinion)

Turn it ever so slightly euro looking...fit a cracking sleeper engine and pull up to lights next to M3s and whatnot and blow them away!

Don't make it too obvious though. Just boy racer enough for them to think they'll show you how it's done. Engine wise I can't help but strip it out and fit a 1.8t and tune the balls off it?

G40 Turbo.

Rothe cast manifold off ebay.de, K03 off a 150bhp 1.8t, bigger injectors and a chip. 200bhp.

2/10 eeeeasy.

not cheap though, G40 engines hold money.

20vt's dont go in very nicely, alot of fabrication work required.

Firstly you need to decide if you want eg

1) Front engine front wheel drive - you can fit anything from 1.3 G40 > 3.2 V6
2) Front engine rear wheel drive - you could look at using Golf Syncro or Haldex parts
3) Mid/rear engine rear wheel drive - again anything from G40s, g60s, 20vt, 2.8>3.2 Vr6

This. You've just said you don't even like Polos, and yet your considering £000s worth of modifications and many hours of your time to make it interest you?
start with something decent. The cost of the starter car will pale into insignificance once you've spent thousands on parts and time.

5 cylinder quattro engine and wider arches to cover the extra track you'll have after doing a 4wd drive conversion.

I have only though about spending 1k on top of the £200 purchase price...
I can fabricate stuff myself...(just)...
I would treat this as a training session before a proper project of my dreams wink

+1 on selling it.

Doesn't matter what you do to it, it's still a cheap grocery-getter chassis which was never built with fun in mind.

Sorry but it sounds like an utter waste of time and money. Get your teeth stuck in to your dream project, it's only metal and most cock-ups are fixable.
