Say that again?

Tell us the full story in fuller statements...

You gave it to a friend? To a colleague? To a business?
How long for?
Were any terms agreed?
Did they have use of the vehicle?
Was it SORNED?

Registered keeper isn't the same as owner.

You can get the information from the DVLA providing you have 'reasonable cause'.

It may be TWOC though it depends on what you consented to. Registering the vehicle in his name is evidence of theft though once you prove appropriation and an intention to permanently deprive.

An unwarranted demand with menaces (blackmail) may also be considered dependent on the facts.

Speak to the Police.

How on earth did he manage that without you signing the change of keeper on V5? If somebody requests ownership of a seemingly abandoned car, a letter gets sent to the registered keeper. Did you get anything?

Sounds like the DVLA have screwed up, but how on earth you will get the police to enforce any decision... Even if you get it back what will he have done to it?

What a prize arse - some mate!

I think I'd be contacting him and advising him that the police would be called and TWOC reported unless he reconsiders his position.

I'd also stop calling him a mate!! It'd be fair to ask for a few beers for any hassle involved in the storage but registering it and charging is taking the mickey more than a little !

How has he moved the car without the keys? (short of lifting it onto a trailer).
