Not sure if this is the right place for insurance stuff so sorry if this is the wrong place.

Anyway i have been looking for cheap (or cheapish) car insurance via comparison sites, Though a more accurate quote would be ringing up various places and after i pass my test anyway, (results are based on when im 20 in a few months and passed my test and held the licence for a year, Also set to third party fire & theft)

Anyway i was looking at the bog standard cars and things like that, like the old civics non vtec and these proton hatchbacks non GTI models too, These cars end up costing like £3k a year to insure based on me if i currently passed my test, Suzuki cappuccino also costs around the same amount if not more and it is not even a 1L O.o

But for some reason most BMW 300 series will cost under £2k to insure, Its the same story with the 93-95 impreza's and a golf R32 also

I really dont get this, But i noticed that the quotes are by Asda online exclusive and some Ecar insurance? something like that but there web pages have the same layout, Are they even offering the right rates as such? Any other insurance company will cost just under 4k and above, Im pretty sure asda had the cheapest for the civic though and that was 3k

Reason im using these sites is because really its easy to buy the car you want, I dont mind spending up to 2k on a nice car but ill like to know a approximate price for insurance before i buy something, and i dont mind spending up to 2k a year for insurance if thats the price as soon as i passed my test, but i definetly want it to get cheaper within time.

Im not a wanabe boy racer or anything i just want a decent looking car that gets me to work... And play loud music :P

Its to do with stats, for example, 10 under 20s crash in a 106. But only 1 crashes in a 5 Series, its seen as a lower risk.

A friend of mine, a few years ago found it was cheaper to get himself a V6 Omega rather than 1.4 polo - by a lot too.

This is constantly trotted out and it's not actually the case. Generally a 106 doesnt cost more to insure than a 5 Series. Sometimes individual insurers will decide they want to insure certain risk profiles and therefore tailor the quote engine to suit this.

Almost every other insurer he tries will quote more for a Golf R32 than a 106 diesel. As they should.

Insurance companies are a tad brighter than 'Look, we paid out for 1000 Focus 1.6 last year and 0 Ferrari 458's, lets make Ferrari 458 insurance £100 a year'

From what I have seen in my years of motoring, my insurance premium tends to be calculated a bit like this...

I think mine works the same way but they don't tend to use 250 as the upper limit .... or 1 as the lower!

wierd isnt it all on risk, cheaper for me to park on the road than my own drive, and cheaper to insure a mk1 focus rs than a mk1 focus 2.0
