How can people be so negligent.
Discussion
I parked next to a 3 year old Focus earlier.
While helping my wife out of our car, i noticed the tyres on the Focus had well under a mm of tread left.
If i can see this at a quick glance, how has the driver failed to notice?
It must be fun in the wet, and there was a child seat in the back.
I'm not sure if the pictures show just how bad they were.

They are called women, cars have two modes, can get to the shops/cant get to the shops, sorry to sound so sexist and I am not usually but my otherwise very capable wife absolves herself of all responsibility with regards to cars, she was driving round with one front brake not working on her 500 so one locked and the other did nothing but didnt mention it !
I think as well tyres are expensive and boring, shoes are much more exciting, my cousin slid into another car when younger and sais it wasnt her fault as her tyres were bald.

It's just occurred to me that it will be coming up for it's first m.o.t.
The owner will probably get a shock when it fails on the tyres
"It's unreliable, I need to trade it in for a new one"The owner will probably get a shock when it fails on the tyres

Looks more than a millimetre to me but the point is well made, my sister never does anything to her car except drive it, no fluid checks, no tyre checks - nothing. It's just been MoT'd and needed tyres... I'm not surprised, in the past she's had to scrap cars at MoT time, she's totally and utterly clueless.

englisharcher - did you leave a note telling them their car was dangerous?
Or did you neglect to?

This really - leave them a note telling them. Not much more you can do and it possibly won't make any difference but slightly more useful than posting it here.Or did you neglect to?

ETA - Which isn't supposed to come over as pissy as it does

Morally the right thing to do, but it can't fail to make you look like a dick.
Mine and a neighbours lad were on a Scout camp and me and the neighbour got roped in to help so we went down there in his car, a Saab 9-5 Aero, he was doing 90-110 a lot of the way, when he parked it he parked it with the wheel at an angle and they fronts had no tread and the internal construction pointing through, now I am not one to get hysterical abotu such things but I was taken aback, I doubt the tyres was goign to fail but it had a better chance of doing so than a legal one, I was more interested in getting back considering it was raining by then. He drove back very slowly and got them changed the following day.

The effort it took to get out your phone take multiple pictures, upload them to the internet and the start a thread about it would have been put to better use by leaving a note.
If you believe it to be so dangerous then imo you are just as negligent for not leaving a note.

Cars are bottom of the list when it comes to financial matters for most people I know.
They only spend anything on them when they virtually on their last legs.
True, the GF has a fairly new Mini which wasnt exactly cheap. She keeps it in quite a messy state and cant understand why I like to clean and polish mine. Her front tyres were nearly at the legal minimum when she got a nail in one, I told her I'd be surprised if they fixed it given its position and remaining tread and she went off on one as if I was in some way to blame! I was only stating what should have been obvious to her. anyway, she went and bought the cheapest possible replacements and I held my tongue! I would never dream of being so blase when it comes to my car. They only spend anything on them when they virtually on their last legs.
