Trying to renew my licence as it runs out in July (the card one, that lasts 5 years). Can anyone see the bit of the DirectGov website that does this? There are loads of options but not one that I can see for a simple renewing a soon to be expired licence.

Cheers.

Just done mine, sent it off and had both the new parts back in about a week.
It's valid for ten years not five! smile

So, I followed the above link, put in all the details and it says "Sorry, blah, blah, blah" My details don't match up. FFS, why is nothing simple?!

Paper, forms pictures etc it is then.

I just did mine last year. I got sent my renewal stuff to my new address (which considering I forgot to tell DVLA I'd moved, was quite efficient and unexpected!). biggrin

Didn't DVLA post you anything?

EDIT: I took mine to a post office. Very efficient and took five minutes.

Did mine in the Post Office in Houndsditch. They have their own photo booth for renewing licences. Very quick and efficient process.

It's definitely 10 years, I just recieved a form in the post about it to get sent to them before the end of next month. It might be worth checking that your licence is registered to your current address because if it is due you shouldn't have to chase it yourself.

I'm not sure how they could do it online because they need a new passport sized photo as well but then again I haven't really looked into it yet, that's my plan for next week.

Thanks gents.

However, let me change my request a little!

Can anyone post a link so that I can download the D1 form? Not a link to "How to fill out the form" or to have a "D1 pack" sent top an address I don't live at at present...I just want the form so I can fill it in and post it to the DVLA.

All the possible downloadable forms are in this list

Agreed, but for some reason the renewal form isn't there. It's madness! I can apply for just about anything, but not a renewal.

It's giving my arse a headache.

Using a new style passport the photo on it can be used for the driving licence without having to send in a new one

If you have renewed or gotten a new passport within the last five years, they'll be able to use the photo on record from that for the new driving licence, meaning you can do it on-line.

This is true, I noticed this when getting my licence first time round three years ago, there's a checkbox for "use photo from passport".

Ah OK, thanks for the correction - I didn't know this and will come in handy next year then when mine is up for renewal smile

If it is not on that list then it needs to be either posted from DVLA or obtained from a post office if they suply them

They don't want you to print out that form, because that makes work for them. They want you to use the online system or a post office.

If you have to use the form then, to try to dissuade you from using it, they insist that you order it.
