Thinking of going down to London next year after the olympics have finished for a car spotting only trip. I've been planning this 'holiday' for about a year now and have covered almost every aspect of the trip, apart from accommodation. Anyone know of any cheap places to stay in the centre of London?

I've done a lot of research into where i can find the best cars and have used the other London Spotting thread here to help; http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&a...

While using Google search i also came across a map which Alex Penfold has very kindly put together for all us spotters, showing just about every place you could possibly think of where you could something special! https://maps.google.co.uk/maps/ms?ie=UTF8&t=h&...

Using these sources i have put together a nice list of places in which i will visit, but i ask if anyone knows of anywhere else that i haven't yet got down yet? Bear in mind that i will be walking and i'm quite unfit so i won't like to do too much!

So this is what i've got, going from north to south.....

Clive Sutton
Lellers
Bob Forsner
Stratstone Aston Martin
Other Stratstone Dealers
Jack Barclay
The Dorchester Hotel
The Intercontinental Hotel
The Lanesborough Hotel
The Berkeley Hotel
Sheraton Park Tower Hotel
Millennium Hotel
Jumeirah Carlton Hotel
Harrods Car Park (will i be able to get in?)
Hans Place
Eaton Square
Chester Square
Lamborghini London
Cars International
H.R. Owen

Another question i have is about the more expensive dealerships in London, for example H.R Owen; can you just stroll into these dealers or will they not let you in to have a look? Is an appointment needed or something like that?

The last and final thing i would like to mention is the photography side of things, anyone got any tips for car photography in London? (i'll make another thread on this at some point, in more detail next time).

Thanks, Rob.

Don't forget your Thermos ;-)

With regards to photography tips I suggest you take videos, put them on YouTube and then spam Pistonheads with the links to drive up add revenue.

Just stand round the back of Harrods. They'll come to you. Then you don't need to shift yer arse at all!

The HR Owen Specialist Cars dealership http://www.hrowen.co.uk/specialist/gallery/special... does let people in you just normally make a small donation to charity. From experience this is the same with the Lamborghini London dealership.

Ah, okay; thanks for the info. How much would the small donation be? Don't mind paying to see the cars at all, especially if the money goes to charity, i'm just intrested to know how much we are talking about. So you just walk in and i assume someone will say something to you then?

Sometimes worth a stroll past The Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders, 71 Great Peter Street, London, SW1P 2BN - occasionally you'll see something interesting in the grounds

Have a look in some of the public NCP car parks. The ones on Cadogan Place and Pavilion Road are worth a visit.

I went last september with the girlfriend and was a little disapointed. I expected alot more from the stories I read on the internet.

Wouldn't it make more sense to go to Goodwood?

Or it this an urban/street hobby?

Going to Goodwood takes the fun out of 'spotting' really, there's no real excitement because you know you'll see something good without looking where as in London it's more about chance and being in the right place at the right time if you get what i mean.

My girlfriend would be quite hack off I took her round the back of Harrods.....

Don't think the wife would be happy about it either.

I would have thought most girlfriends would be pretty annoyed about being dragged around London to spot cars.

Unless they are felow anorak and Thermos enthusiasts.
