I just had a play on their website and at the prices they're offering a 4x4 SUV for I can see them shifting a bucket load to people who aren't concerned about badges.

Does anyone else offer a sub £15k 4x4 diesel?

With this kind of pricing stratergy it's not going to take to long for Dacia to outsell it's Renault parents in the UK market. Yes the cars are built on older Renault platforms but when you can make significant savings how many everyday drivers will be that bothered? Heck £8995 for a decent looking 2wd SUV I'd be half tempted myself.

Plenty here in BG. Mind you, there are decent amount of Dacia's on the road in general. Logan's, Sandero, the Duster, etc.

We have ours here and I am pleasantly surprised with the quality of it all.

Yes a top spec one is 15k but it is a very good overall package!

The wheel arches aren't roundconfused Not that I'm fussy given the price.

What Renault platform is the Duster based on?

Based on the Renault-Nissan B0 platform IIRC.

Juke/note/Clio/Modus all share variations of it.

I think it makes it a tried and tested car that isn't bad at being a car. Nothing special but not hateful and if it's been around a while should have decent parts availability.

I think thats the plan...renault are already paring back their range in the UK IIRC, no longer selling langunas and meganes. Probably a lot more profitable making cars in Romania than highly unionized France. Renault hasnt much reputation for reliability either, so the relatively unknown Dacia name is unlikely to make much difference IMO.

Not selling meganes? News to me, we were selling them this morning hehe

Lots of the Renault range isn't actually made in France anyway, but your point is correct.

The Dacia range uses existing tooling, mostly existing components so is cheap and easy to manufacture and will make a lot more profit than the Renault range does IMO.

Shame we have a LHD car that we can't use on the road and is a different spec (slightly) to sell from, with first deliveries in early next year.

^^^ This. Good news to have some decent cheap cars made in Europe rather than having to buy Chinese or Korean.

Ironically, Great Wall have just opened up a factory in Lovech, (about 150Km from me), building dodgy Chinese motors!

For reference, halve the price, and that's pretty much the price in Euro's. Cheap as chips! hehe
