Martin Baker, the Ejection Seat Manufacturers have a club for those that have ejected using one of their seats and survived, you get a tie as well !

So, nearest we have on the ground is the airbag, cant offer a tie but who has had an airbag deployment and what was it like, have never had the pleasure myself and dont want to !

How many went off, did it hurt, did it work ?

I have an irrational dislike of airbags. Everytime I ride in an airbag car, I keep looking where the airbag is and thinking 'there's an explosive pointed at my face'. I think it comes from the first Escort with a passenger airbag, where it looked like it was bulging and ready to burst open at any second. Couldn't take my eyes off that thing.

Passenger in a BMW 130i, side, head height side and front airbags all went off. Loud, smokey and in shock I walked away from a 80mph impact with the central reservation with only a cut on my arm from the side airbag deploying (my guess). I'd not want to try that same accident in a car without airbags or modern crash structures!

Head on collision - airbag deployed, I got cuts to my face, smashed glasses, and concussion. Probably better than the alternative though...

I have.

From about 40mph I guess. It felt like a pillow. I only realised it had gone off a few seconds after I'd come to a stop.

It did split my lip as well, but it wasn't painful.

Was it my fault? Erm...yeah.

burnt both my wrists and took the hair off of them and could hear a high pitched buzzing noise for a couple of days later...nothing compared to the ache my whole body felt the next morning.

ETA: no it wasnt my fault, woman driving through a redlight and turned right across the junction. Head-on, no time to react...stupid bint.

Don't remember a thing about it, except sitting there in all the white dust they release after everything had settled down. I have no recollection of it feeling like I had been punched in the face like a lot of people say it is.

Oh and the collision wasn't my fault. A car failed to give way to me when turning right at a set of lights and pulled out right in front of me.

Unfortunatly yes, driving to work in the snotter and snotted it frown

My fault, following a landrover towing a trailer that stopped suddenly, I could swear his brake lights wern't working on the trailer as I was following at a safe distance and only noticed when the gap started to rapidly decrease. Unfortunalty, after hitting it there were no lights left to check.

Annoyingly, as it was a pretty low speed accident and the only damage to his trailer was the lights (as far as I'm aware, i will admit there may have been further damage to the trailer chassis that wasn't visible) both of my air bags deployed.

The only other damage to my car was a cracked bumper and headlights and a slightly squashed leading edge of the. The insurance co wrote the car off due to the cost of replaceing the bags and the interior.

They go off with a huge bang, most noticble is the sudden jump in the air pressure in the car. I had burn marks up the inside of my arms that took about a week to recover as well.

Afterwards there was a huge amount of dust (talk?) floating around that was pretty nasty, I certainly didn't stay there very long.

I had a Peugeot 306 and apparantly a wiring issue causes the airbag light to stay on but have been told "It actually works" - a known fault on older Peugeots or so I'm lead to believe.

I had an accident and it did go off - but had a bruise accross the top of my forehead where my head hit the top of the wheel (this appeared several hours after the shunt) Didnt notice it at the time and didnt feel it so not sure if the airbag actually served its purpose.

Didn't realise that it went off, only when I saw the deflated bag. I found my glasses on the parcel shelf later biggrin

Had one go off when I wrote off my first car. Don't remember it actually touching my face, the seatbelt caught me in front of it, so it just inflated in front of me, then deflated..

Bought a Reno Scenic as a workaday hack, got in it one morning put key in ignition turned key, every possible dash light lit up and poof all the airbags went off, My missus who was in the kitchen thought the heap of sh*t had blown up.

No injuries just a niggle everytime I get in a car fitted with them.

I had the passanger side impact airbags go off when my car was struck by a massive truck tyre.

I just remember a loud bang and the car filling with a bit of white smoke.

No injuries luckily. Not that the truck driver worried as he drive off never to be traced...
