RE: Time for tea? M5 'fast as a speeding bullet'
Friday 29th June 2012

We've talked a lot already about the M5 and its new M6 brother this week. Not least about a certain lack of drama, given its 560hp twin-turbo V8. Well, this little vid to promote the F10 M5's imminent arrival on the North American market suggests solutions.
Time for tea? M5 'fast as a speeding bullet'
Arty BMW promo teases stick-shift M5 in a spectacular little vid

Firstly the noise issue. Forget tricksy digital enhancement and park your M5 in an enclosed space instead. Job done. And the aloofness thing we've moaned about with regard to both M5 and M6? Check out what happens at 25 seconds on the video and prepare to turn green with envy at the no-cost option offered to North American M5 buyers but denied to us living this side of the pond.
Are the stunts in the video as authentic as the M5's exhaust note? Hard to say, but it's a pretty cool bit of slo-mo action. Enjoy!

I don't get why the box is not available this side of the Atlantic...
Most Americans I know don't even know what a Manual box is and those who do wouldn't want one in their cars.
Go on some American car websites & say that. You'll be proven very wrong, Americans are just as enthusiastic about manual cars as the rest of us. Most Americans I know don't even know what a Manual box is and those who do wouldn't want one in their cars.
- Strange

None of it was real. Will retract that statement if proven wrong, but if it's real, they've done a bloody good job of making it look like it isn't.
I suppose it's better than yet another 'Check out the amazing 'our man Harris' goes 'skidding' again' video - GRRRHHH!
ETA - Can't deny watching them all though. Tis a bit like Top Gear, I watch them because I like cars and there ain't much else to watch - not because I'm particularly enamoured with what I'm seeing.

As mention above, enthusiats on US forums are overjoyed they are getting manual once more. Plenty of US drivers know hos to hussle a manual and european performance cars with stick are view as highly sophisticated. It is the last manual M5 the US will get... BMW have already announced the next M5, due in 2017, will not be offered anywhere with a manual. They are none to pleased either.
This weeks Autocar has the latest on the next M3 (saloon), it will be DCT only. Nothing was mentioned re whether the M4(coupe) will have manual option. Manuals are fading away.

I agree, doesn't look real to me. Too many continuity mistakes, camera crews disappearing & the pipe looks very much like CGI.I suppose it's better than yet another 'Check out the amazing 'our man Harris' goes 'skidding' again' video - GRRRHHH!

Nice video though. The Honda and Sony adverts pre-tits-up-economy were my favorite!
