Right could end up being my 'What Car?' but may not see how things go.

I am currently in the process of purchasing my first house and moving out from parents place, much to their pleasure!

Currently running with a company car and a 2.5 Boxster for a bit of fun on the weekend. This is not problem at the moment as I have no out goings money wise, well only the ones that I want.

I was thinking about still keeping a fun car but something a bit cheaper to insure. Question is really, would I regret changing the Boxster to some kind of warm/hot hatch. I was thinking something like a Clio 182/172 depends on the buying costs and what I can find.

Also if I do what other options would I have for around 2k? Doesn't have to be a hatch just something not too expencive to keep running.

Personally I wouldn't enjoy driving the Clio at all if I'd traded down from a Porsche. If things are going to be a bit tight on the cash front I would just stick with a work car only for the time being, until I could afford a proper fun car again.

Can't honestly think of anything else in the price range tbh, it's cheap, fun, and a convertible to boot. had a similar dilemma myself with a slightly higher budget, and bought a s2000 simply because anything else (z4,mx5,boxster excepted) would be just another box....

Having your own place will be slightly more expensive than living with you parents(!)

Have a look at how much money you have each month after paying your rent/mortgage, council tax, utility bills, food bills, house repairs, etc.

Then decide what car to buy.

Trading down to a clio is a big mistake, the quality is piss poor in comparison-a big mistake. An r32 golf, leon cupra or ctr are all vastly better for similar cash. The clio will cost more to run than the boxster due to running repairs.

Think I may be going down the mx5 route!

As some one said Dc2. Hadn't considered a Honda but if a can find one close I may have a look.

I suppose the sensible thing would be to see how much I have left over after the bills but sure I can cope with shopping in Lidl or dare I say it asda if I need to save a bit of cash!

You haven't done that yet? I would have thought doing a bit of analysis into the outgoings would be pretty much the first thing you'd do when embarking on buying your own house.

How bad is your company car that a Clio would be considered fun?

You are in for rude awakening if you are leaving home, buying your own place, running a company car and a Boxster for the weekend.

Financially you are about to be screwed.

The Boxster has to go, you don't need a weekend car, and start investing in something that might actually make you some money.

The weekend car can come later when you have a surplus of cash at the end of each month. Besides 2.5 Boxsters can be had for £3k now and you know what to look for out now.

Thats my Dad speech over.

And I can speak from experience as I did exactly this, but changed from a 182 to 2.5 Boxster. Never regretted that for a second but did regret selling the Boxster a few years later. Despite being a ' lowly' 2.5 it was just so much fun to drive. 182 was buzzy, cheap and annoying.

Now finances have settled I am ditching the Mk6 Golf GTi Company car, taking the car allowance and looking at a weekend car to compliment the ML420 family car. Looked at Caymens, 911's etc, probably won't go that route as that itch has been scatched. Maybe an NSX.

Try not to do everything at once, it will come back to you later.

Thank you for that talking too! I suppose I needed to hear it from some one.

Well so from a what car thread to a anyone want a boxster thread!

Atleast I can look back and say I had a Porsche at the age of 22!
