My wife saw a Land Rover with a snorkel get flooded last night. The guy must have felt like a right tool!
Why would he? I have a Defender with a snorkel and if my wife and 4 week old were stuck in a flood in the middle of the car, I'd take the landy in and hope. Obviously, I know it's limits, but if it was on the cust, I'd take the chance and just get wet if I got stuck.

I bet that like a fair few poseur's Defenders, that snorkel was fitted for visual decoration purposes and not actually sealed to the intake pipe with silicone (yes, this does happen quite a lot)mat777 said:

If you have a snorkel, can water going into the exhaust cause problems ?
Not if the engine is running. Gasses keep the water out.Not a Landy buy you can see what I mean in an impressive example.

All the breathers need routing too IIRC. Don't the diffs all have breather pipes that need plumbing in too?
They do, and mine are plumbed in to the bottom of the snorkel (not the top yet). Yes, I've sealed my airbox properly too.
I have a timinig case wading plug in the cabin for when it's needed too.

Now disassemble it and re-assemble with silicon sealant on every joint and refill with water. Keep doing this until there are no leaks and then fit it to the vehicle!
