shamelessly copied from another forum....

due to time and space constrains, i'm having to take my car to Brystone for an engine oil and filter change and a coolant change. As i was going to do it myself i'm taking the oil and coolant to them (coolant already mixed at 50%!) but i don't have an oil filter.....so how much should i expect to pay, bearing in mind it'll be purely labour for the coolant change and oil change except the oil filter and possible sump plug/washer?

i'm guessing it should be under the £100 mark? guess i should really ask them but thought i'd get an idea on here.....it's going in after work today for collection tomorrow afternoon hehe

If you've already got the parts why not just do the work yourself? Engine oil is a piece of cake, filter is even easier and coolant is a case of drain, refill and bleed.

Do it yourself and save the monies smile

Edited to say that you were about right with the cost. I would expect around £100 - probably a bit less

Be prepared for some "extra" work that may need doing. As a general rule I dont think garages like it when you turn up with your own parts as it reduces their profit or they may even refuse to fit them and spout something about warranties.

On your 728i?

At most 1.5hrs labour + cost of oil filter sumpplug washer, so yes <£100.

i've already said i'll be bringing my own parts.

reason i'm not doing it myself is a recent house move and sorting loads of stuff out and my trolley jack needs replacing too....it lifted the E21 no problems but struggles a bit with the E38. i've done oil changes before they're easy but i really don't have the time or space right now. coolant changes.....the M52 is known for being a bugger to bleed so i'd rather it be done properly tbh, i'm really quite useless with the spanners hehe

i know the garage, they won't try to pull the wool over my eyes re any other work if it doesn't need doing.

thanks chaps.

edit - yep, on the 728i smile

At my local friendly garage, I paid £28.30 for oil and filter change and pollen filter change. I supplied oil, filter, sump washer and pollen filter. It's not that I couldn't do it myself, I just needed a stamp to keep my warranty active.
