This being Friday afternoon it's time for a spot of window shopping. What's the most interesting thing you can find in the classifieds for a grand?

The rules are it has to be a road car of some description and it has to be a current runner. Points for creativity.

I'll open the bidding with this:

Are all those jobs listed in the ad just part of an on going refresh or was there anything that prompted the work?

I didn't think you got clean 205 GTIs for that sort of money any more. If I didn't have way too many car kicking round already I'd be quite tempted by that.

Crumbs there's a lot of crap in the classifieds.

Sensible shoes choice:
http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/3995643.htm £550

Heart over head:
http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/3957617.htm £995

I know it's an auto, non-turbo and has a horrible cream interior, but just look at it! cloud9

I've been thinking quite a lot about these recently. Okay, you'd need to haggle somewhat, but you do see decent examples down to the magic £1,000:

I do presume that's a typo, though, on the power output? ...66 bhp?

The previous owner just wanted to give the car a good re-fresh. It's a cracking little thing.

It's amazing what you can get for a grand.

I would be quite happy with this, http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/3991674.htm; run it a couple of months and sell on for as much as you paid.

Are you not tempted to tidy up the rear bodywork a little and then bump the price up?

Great car. I had one for a few years around 05/06. I sold it with 143k in the end. Took it to the Alps a few times too. Only downside was very very poor MPG.
