Quick diesel options circa 6k?

Hi,

Currently have a 2005 E46 320d MSport Touring, its been a great car and drives very well. Did all the usual work when I bought it - swirl flaps, oil breather, etc. I considered getting it mapped originally but I fancy a change as I no longer need an 'estate' for daily use.

Do approx 20-25k a year, mixed motorways and back roads. Ideally I want something that drives well with a bit more power, 35mpg+ is a must.

I'm currently considering something like a late E46 330cd, as they have the 204hp engine and quite a few extras over my touring (leather and xenons) and are within the 5-6k budget. Along with a map from what I've read they are plenty quick enough and still handle well being an MSport.

What other 'performance' options are out there in the diesel world for 5-6k that fall within the size of something like an E46 coupe? Im not too bothered about milage - I had a Passat up to 220k+ and my 320d is on 110k now. I do most mechanical work myself so maintenance isn't really an issue.

I'm in almost the same situation so interested in what opinions are out there. I had originally planned to replace my current diesel with a Civic 2.2 diesel but I'm now leaning towards a 330d.
