Subaru B9 TriBeCa 7 seat. £9K should get a 2008 with 30,000 miles. Big, comfortable, all the toys, 3L petrol with full time 4WD - and ugly as sin so affordable

Luke.

Yep, very nice to drive in a big US automatic sort of way. Built in Indiana, primarily for the US market. Lovely motorway cruiser. With a set of M+S all, season tyres it will do muddy fields no probs as well.

Hadn't considered the TriBeCa ..... Though no diesel and £400 a year tax might tip the burden!

Slightly more agricultural, but i quite like them.
Never driven one, just thought i would throw it in the mix as it seems to be reasonable VFM.

The interior isn't that bad either. If they come down in price a bit; because 24.6mpg urban for a diesel isn't that great, 37.2mpg highway is almost ok.

Shogun LWB 3.2 DiD 7 seater.
Tough old things, handles like the QE2.
32' mpg from the auto.
£9k might get you a 2007.

I'm a Landy man so my vote goes there. Although recently I've been reading up and looking at Chevy Suburbans. Great value for money and loads and loads of room. About the same length as a Defender 130, so quite manageable in the UK too.

If you look carefully you can just about get a Discovery 3 for that money. although choice would be limited. I've recently seen one for £7950
