Has anyone used Vredestein Quatracs on a heavy/powerful car?
Discussion
The Saab needs a set of new tyres. One of the reasons we own the car is that neither the Elise nor 350Z are ideal for winter conditions. It was absolutely crap in the snow last year. Partly because the tread was getting low, but even so, really poor.
The Impreza (Sport, NA model) had a set of Vredestein Quatrac 3 all seasons on it, and was brilliant in the snow. Four wheel drive helps, obviously, but lateral grip and braking were great as well as traction. I used them all year round, and they wore well and didn't get chewed up in the summer. Good tyres, which I would highly recommend for that sort of application.
I am strongly inclined to buy a set for the Saab, but I'm a bit nervous about extrapolating how they worked in a 195/55/15 size on a 1200kg car putting 123bhp through four wheels to a 225/45/17 on a 1740kg car putting 250bhp through the fronts. I don't want to spend the best part of 500 quid on a set of tyres to find that they don't suit the application.
The car takes a 225/45/17 94W. I can match the load rating in the Quatrac, but would have to drop to a V rating for speed. My insurer appear to be OK with that, arse-covering not withstanding:

Thank you for your e-mail.
We apologise for the delay in our response.
The tyres you fit must be used in the correct driving conditions and be suitable for your vehicle. Also they must not enhance the performance of the car. As long as this is the case, it means they will have no impact on any policy you may have with us.
If your tyres need to be replaced in the event of a claim, we will replace your tyres on a like for like basis.
I hope this answers your query.
Anyone tried these on something similar? We apologise for the delay in our response.
