Criteria as above, for the sake of argument lets call <5k cheap, engine size etc is a non-issue but the more interesting the better.

Here in Ireland, anything over 30 years old is considered Vintage and so qualifies for much cheaper tax, eg anything over 3 litre goes from €1400ish down to €80 per year

All manner of MGs and Triumphs would fit the criteria; as would a variety of early hatchbacks like the mk1 Golf.

Capri, either 2 litre or a V6, was the first thing that came to mind.
Possibly a Manta.
