A mates car has come back from the local tyre place looking like this. The car went back and they said there is NO way it could have been caused by the machine. Maybe the tyre could have done it. But basically they're washing their hands of it.

The wheels were refurbed only 2 months ago, and all 4 rims were fine before it went to the garage. Surely if the damage happened in their care, they should deal/pay for it to be repaired.

The manager said that a claim could be put into head office, they may pay out, or they may not.

I will try to get a clearer picture, but its not on the face of the rim, its on the 'edge', there is a 4 inch gouge out of the metal, with a big divot at the beginning and end, and its got fresh (cut) metal on it.

This. Tyre swapping is done by the last muppet in the door, so it's almost inevitable unless you go to somewhere with a better reputation.

I would be pissed, but if you can't prove it...well.

Did he say anything when he collected the car or phone when he got home? I would have refused to take the car from the forecourt and told every customer on the way in what they did, until they admitted liability.

Car driven away then checked, was back at the garage within 10 minutes.

after my recent exploits with a large online tyre supplier I would say you have pretty much zero chance. after 2 months of arguing and them making up stories and dismissing whatever I had to say they have offered me £30 for the hassle and £30 more if I get all 4 wheels refurbed (yep they ruined all 4). They got the balancing wrong on 2 wheels too which I had to pay someone else to get right. So overall I can either take £10 and have the wheels showing the scrapes or take a £200 hit and have nice wheels again.
I even confronted them about this before I took the car away and they just lied to my face.

Makes me wish I still worked somewhere that I could fit my own tyres.

The best place to get your tyres fitted is at a refurbers.

My local refurb place fits tyres for a £10 a corner.

You do feel like a twunt watching over tyre fitters but simply pointing out perfect wheels before and inspecting after you ensure that they are bang to rights if they screw up.

A friend of mine had very nice refurbed BMW M6 alloys. They are black with a red rim, he searched high and low to find a tyre garage that wernt't going to fk them up.

He finally found one charging £12 a tyre change that didn't fk them all up. Just two. He knew it was going to happen but unfortunatly didn't have the tools to change the wheels himself. He expected damage as they were very low profile!

I took mine to blackboots to prevent this sort of thing happening. They have two very clever machines that do it all automatically without anything touching the wheel rim.

After watching the first 3 wheels go in/out, I decided to watch the machine in action on the last one.

What did I see? Chappy using the normal machine with steel tyre levers on the alloys.

All credit to the man, Tony the owner was absolutely spot on and gave me a free 4-wheel laser alignment to say sorry. The chap doing it admitted it he had done it. The alloys all had a bit of damage on anyway from previous tyre changes, so I wasn't going to get him to refurb them as I couldn't guarantee they'd done any damage, just told him I was dissappointed as I came to them specially for the use of their machines. He still gave me the alignment.

If I have a car with nice wheels again I'll definitely take it back there, good customer service speaks volumes.

There were Porkers/Ferraris trotting in and out whilst I was there to have tyres done.
