Ok, i know the obvious answer is PH, but...

One of the guys who works for me has asked me for any help i can give in selling his late FIL's lotus carlton. Its been in dry storage for a number of years since his death and his MIL has always sworn she wants nothing to do with it as its got lots of sentimental value.

The storage place is now closing down, my collegue does not drive, his mrs does drive but has no interest in driving her fathers car so they are now thinking of selling it.

I am awaiting proper details but i have seen a pic, it looks pretty mint but not sure if it has been driven at all while in storage. Its standard apart from a remap and apparently has a huge file of paperwork.

Now, there are 2 in the ph classifieds (one sold at £12k, one available for £14k)

I am going down next week to move it from storage to bring it up to mine so i can garage it until the MIL makes a decision (she does not want it on her drive).

So, i know its a bit of a specialist toy and i know the market wont be huge, but i want to help them get top whack for it. This is sll a bit vague i know, i'll clear up the finer details when i see it next week.

Is there a specialist that would be interested? Auction?

I am more than happy to sell cars privately myself but dont know a great deal about this marque so could end up getting shafted as i have no idea of its true worth.

Any help would be appreciated.

I'd get a garage you trust to pick it up, service it, MOT it and then get it valleted. Then put it up for sale on here for proper cash. That'll be the best way to get money for it

I'll save the bother by agreeing to buy it unseen for £600 cash tomorrow, you know that's a great price and it is a buyers market out there. You do know thirsty big petrols aren't shifting.

They guy who works for me is incredibly vague, has no interest in cars and wouldnt know what a turbo was if one fell in his lap - he has mentioned that the place its at get paid a premium for keeping it road worthy. I'm not 100% on that though.

The point of getting it looked at is spot on and is something i will suggest. Any good indy's in or around london?

If it hasn't been driven for a while, it is entirely possible it had deteriorated - I'd be tempted to get someone who knows about these cars to have a good look at it. Specialist market, for what, after all is a very special car.

Serious answer you could send a message to PHer L100NNY who is also know as Ben Speak from Hilton & Moss (who happen to be a Lotus dealer).

You're right, something along the lines of selling his BMW because he wants a Vauxhall?!

I bought a my TVR from brooklands classics auction. It was a very slick operation and all the cars were interesting classics and were making good money. You know it would find a good home too.

Loon could be the chap. Full history and low miles will allow him to retail it at proper money, thus everyone's a winner and it heads to a good home

There's a Vauxhall event at Billing Aquadrome next weekend (the weekend of the 14th), though how you might crack the nut of getting in there with this car at this late stage is anyone's guess (I'm just passengering there with friends, and I don't have any details of the organisers, sorry).

You'd probably find a buyer there - but make sure it's got a Disklok on if you park it ad hoc as opposed to on an organised club stand and need to leave it alone at any stage during the day (it's an, errm, interesting clientele there, totally unlike any other show I have ever been to hehe )...
