So I was thinking about the motorway speed thread, which got me thinking about driving through France and then leads me to the question:

Where have people been driving this year and what experiences have you had?

Personally I have about 4000 miles in Spain and France, but have also driven in Portugal and the States (Dallas)

Still haven't taken my LS7 Cerb out of the country yet...

I've driven more or less nowhere, but I'm off to the USA in the autumn and I'm going to find The Crossroad down in Missisippi.

So far the only place of note is up to the Scottish Highlands, back down to the North yorkshire Moors and then over to Chester from Devon. About 1600 miles.

Next month I will set out to drive to Budapest.

Done a few trips so far this year: taken a Jag XJ6 on a 5,000mile lap of the Baltic Sea in winter, to drive the ice roads which form on the frozen sea ice, taken the TVR on a 2 week camping trip in France and driven around Morocco in a 1975 Rover P6 3500 V8. Still another 5 months left in 2012; haven't decided what's next yet...

Can't beat a slightly preposterous road trip when it comes to making life more interesting :-)

Most of South Korea at some time or another.
Driving back across the whole country in snow and ice after a 20+ hour flight was probably a mistake though hehe
Done about 13000kms this year already!

Rome to north of Lucca and back with a bit of pottering in between in a Fiat 500 on my todd. Maxed the 500 when I got to 130 limit stretches. Not the most interesting drive, but my first experience with a Sat Nav. Rome to the middle of nowhere no problem.

As I type we are in a rented villa in Sorrento, 5 minutes from the start of the interesting bit of the Amalfi Coast road, My God it's good fun. I have a 1.0 Yaris, completely gutless, but ace fun blatting around in second all the time. A larger car would be frightening to be honest.

I have taken two european trips this year. In april covered abiut 2000 miles driving to Alicante area of Spain. Roads were absolutely wonderful and can only count on one hand the number of police and cameras. A great place to drive because it is quiet, straight roads and they all seem to love great cars. Second trip was in June to Le Mans 24 race. A but different this one!. Again good roads and loads of appreciable car enthusiasts but you feel the police are out to get ya!!:-)

3,500 miles of New Zealand's North and South islands in a 2 litre Focus hire car.

Well 2 Focii actually, as the first one lost its clutch on the inter-islander ferry ramp.

From home near Limoges to Menton/Monaco, around some MC Rally stages including the Turini, on into northern Italy and back (it was early February and the weather was horrible there too), then home via northern Spain/top of the Costa Blanca and the Pyrenees.
Then to Yorkshire from home and back via Plymouth/Roscoff and Brittany.
Several short breaks since.
All in the now 14-year-old Prelude that refuses (so far) to die...

Only big trip in the last 12 months:

In a fully laden eight year old Focus... Still managed to set a new sat nav top speed of a blistering 185kph on the de-restricted autobahn

Will probably be doing the same trip in the new car later this year, which should mean a better effort on the top speed front...
