I have been on .Gov. and all is not totally crystal, unless I am being a bit thick.

I have two cars and simply want to transfer an Irish Plate from one car in my name to another I have just bought.
The plate is coming off a 59 plate car and going on a 2003 car.

Does the DVLA provide a new 59 number for the donar car or does it go back to the original, and can the Irish plate be used on a 2003 car ?

You mean northern irish? should be ok
Usually it'll revert to the original plate, otherwise one of the same year

Im not sure you are allowed to put a plate from an newer car on an older one? Kind of makes the car look younger than it is.

It's not allowed, only the other way round.

As long as the plate currently on the 59 plate isn't newer than 2003 then should be fine... do you have a local DVLA office, very easy to nip in and they sort it all out, have just done this with mine and much easier than sending it all off?

How would that work, 59 = 2009.

As inferred by the sarcastic comment at the end of the post smile

NORTHERN Irish, people.. The answer couldn't be any more different if you actually meant Irish.

But if it is an NI plate, then yes, I believe you can transfer it to any mainland vehicle since they don't imply any age. The only thing you're not allowed to do is put a year-related plate onto a car which is older than the year in question.
