It sounds like there is something stuck on my front o/s tyre as when it rotates I can hear it.
However, when I inspect there is nothing obvious.
I then remove the wheel to inspect inside and wheelarch etc but still nothing obvious.
When I replace the wheel the sound disappears for a while and then gradually reappears and gets worse and worse.
I then take off wheel again and repeat, sound goes and then gradually reappears.

I have recently replaced discs and pads so I'm sure that's not it.

Any thoughts much appreciated.

Might be worth swapping the tyre front to rear to see if the noise follows. At least you can then rule out the tyre and maybe look at CV joint or driveshaft.

More than likely -

Pad knocking - check to see if a pad is slightly loose

or

a stone (or similar) rattling in the caliper.

It might be the wheel bearing?does the noise get louder going round corners?

I have thought about this.
I THINK it gets worse turning right and gets better turning left.

changed brakes last week and is the same as before I changed them so I assume it's not the pad.

Defo doesn't sound like a stone.

What about the universal joint?is the rubber boot intact and no leaking grease?

Standard wheels?

Is the caliper just touching/clipping the wheel as it will now be pushed right out as it has new pads in?

Had exactly the same problem with old pads so I doubt it's this.

Now I'm getting a bit lost - where would I find this?

Locking wheel bolts can do that if the length is slightly different, or on non standard wheels.

I once had a regular scuffing / scraping noise at low speed, could only hear it with the window open. I went through the entire drivetrain, replaced anything that might be causing it, never made any difference. The scuffing noise never got any worse, just stayed the same. Finally the front tyres wore out, I had a new set fitted, and the noise was gone. Must have been a stone or similar inside one of the tyres.

If its front wheel drive then there should be a drive shaft that connects the power to the wheel.

Could be the disc shield. I've had it before when I put new disc and pads and new discs were making contact with the shields. I just bent them back a bit.
