I really like....the Kia Sportage
Discussion
I'm hiring a different car every week at the moment, and after 5 weeks of V6 Mustangs I asked the local car agent to surprise me on the next rental, thinking they might pick out that I like 2dr coupes, offer me a nice deal on a Camaro or maybe spot that they're coming back after a week or so with about 2000 extra miles on them, something nice and luxurious.
Well, surprise me she did. Car's in L32 Sir, see you in a week, and a nice cheery wave. Blue Kia Sportage, fairly base spec with bluetooth.
It's actually a really fun car! Not badly built (but no real luxury hints) but easier to wheelspin than a Mustang with the Advantrac off. Binary throttle response and a steering wheel the size of a button. Half the horsepower that I came from, but I remember booting the Mustang up the freeway and reached big fine speeds quite quickly without really getting a bum twitch from it.
This, you're pushing it round corners with images of Hammond in the Sooty van in your head and giving it a little prod of opposite lock to see if it'll do anything interesting. With the traction control off, it's ace in the corners!
I'd never buy one, but to hire it's a great laugh. Load of space, decent iPod integration and once I worked out how to get bass out of the stereo, not a bad noise from the speakers. I'm taking it to Santa Cruz beach tomorrow to test out this Hill Descent button!
