As the title says we are looking at changing out the long legged Touareg, which carries out the thankless task of the school run.

I put a deposit on a 2009 240 PS Q7, only to return home to tantrums about its sheer size. "Grrr why didn't you say anything before the deposit was handed over. mad"
Anyway Q7 is a no no.

I have been looking at E250/350 CDI 7g's with tiny mileages (3-9k) and 61 plates for in the region of 23-24K LOT OF CAR...

Also seen a few nice Alpina D3's LCI's for around the 20k mark with 18k mileage.

Also to add to the dithering a few 520d M-Sport F10's sneaking into the budget... Help!

I'm no fan of SUVs/Softroaders, but how about a Q5, should be a fair bit smaller then the Q7, much closer to the touareg.

But honestly, school-run, so taking 2-3 kids to school, providing you dont actually live on top of an unpaved hill in schotland (in which case a LR would be your only hope besides a helicopter), a 5 door VW Golf (or something similar) should be more then sufficient.

Any reason you are looking for large german saloons for just taking the kids to school?

Out of what you've mentioned, I'd have the F10.
But I wouldn't buy a diesel, and I can't afford 25k either, haha.

Tiguan?

Smaller than your outgoing Toureg and a Q7.

Why a diesel for the school run, how far do you live from the school?

I vote E60 M5.

4x4 requirement AND diesel engine requirement for (what is likely to be only a couple of miles) school run? This thread will not go well for you OP. hehe

Why do people always say this? How do you know how much money this guy has? £25k might be the quivalent of you buying a packed of crisps for all we know?

besides, why shouldn't he buy his wife a nice, safe, comfortable, easy to drive car to carry his most precious posesions around? (his kids, not his Kyle CD back catalogue........ ;-)

I would be tempted by a Lexus GS450h as an alternative choice, especially if the school run was short.

Then why does he want a diesel?

If she liked the Q7, just not its size, then what about an Audi Allroad?

school run!? OMG.. get a Ford F250 Duallie.. its the only tool for the job!.. its a little small for the task in hand.. but it should safely block any rod you stop in allowing your kid casually saunter across the road in safety to the school.

now wouldn't that be nice
