335d or A5 3.0 TDI?
Discussion
I've narrowed it down to those two. Requirements are closest to £16k as possible and auto.
Power-wise and torque, clearly the BMW has the edge. A few more are available for under £20k.
I prefer the looks of the A5 with quattro- I drive on country roads every day and quattro would be nice. However they are rarer and seem to have high miles.
Help?

Down to personal choice and your own particular needs.Power-wise and torque, clearly the BMW has the edge. A few more are available for under £20k.

Not sure why you'd need 4 wheel drive 'just' because you drive on country roads, OR are you saying there is a winter weather element to where you live, which would then make the a5 quattro pretty much the de facto choice?
Drive both, see which suits you best. I very very nearly bought a new 3.0 TDI a6 quattro le mans back in 07 - fantastic car to drive, THEN i drove a 535d which was just in a different league....
I had a look at both of these in January this year, both fantastic cars and I found if difficult to pick the 'better one', but if forced would probably say I preferred the BMW. At 16k you may struggle to get a good one with reasonable mileage and spec. I found around 20k ish more realistic, but at that money for a diesel work shuttle (albeit a superb one) a bit too much - so I bought a 123d and don't regret it one bit. The extra cash has gone towards a weekend toy

Well there is the winter element for sure- living in the sticks is all well and good but getting there is another matter!Quattro is nice to have, as I said, but I guess no deal breaker.
If my current car is written off, I'm debating getting an A5 (2.0d).
I suppose it's down to whether the difference in power is important - the BMW with a remap is awesome (it was in my 2006 535d).
Also, the 3 series is a smaller car, so will be sportier and bumpier, but handle better. The A5 is quite large compared to the 3 coupe.
I am thinking A5 as I want a more comfortable car now, but the 3 is a great car... you won't be disappointed with either, but I dare say they are VERY different cars - you need to drive them both!

Test drove an A5 3.0TDI. Found it the most underwhelming car I've driven after all the hype. Interior wasn't all that, wasn't wearing very well, squeeky armrest and those 5.9 seconds it apparently takes to get to 60 are quite long seconds.
Bought a 335 instead.
Yep, 335 is a MUCH better drive than the Audi in pretty much every way.Bought a 335 instead.
