I need some for the back of my new car. Currently running 225/40/18ZR rated. Looking to up this to deal with the power to 235/40/18ZR.

Its going on a 8 1/2 inch wide wheel on the back.

I currently have Toyo Proxy T1R's and they seem fine, grips well enough etc. I have had a quick look around and it seems to be the best part of £200 a corner which seems alot. Never paid that much for my M3 and that was a 245 on the back?

I have looked on Black circles and kwik fit so far, will try all my locals as well.. Anyone know of others please? I am in Somerset BA21 so any of you local guys know anything?

thanks

Mark

We got our last tyres from Motorhog. They have several bases around the UK so would be worth checking if one is near you or not and what prices they can offer you.

Hi Guys,

thanks for the replies....

What brand is FK452s?

I am new to all this tyre thing. My last two cars have done so little I never needed to put any on frown

The last time I bought some tyres online was before they had all the fitting centers and it cost me £20 a tyre to be fitted which kind of took the cheapness out of the whole thing frown

Strange! I've just gone from 451s and 452s on my M3 to try the Proxes and think they're better. I'd never call the Falkens poor but they're not as good as the Toyos.

Black circles, camskills and mytyres are the cheapest but sometimes each one can do better deals on specific tyres.

FK452s are Falken. They've brought out a 453 now too so 452s may be a little cheaper.
£20 for fitting? That's pretty good, much better than paying £40 extra per tyre (inc fitting) don't you think?

At the time it worked out the same price if I had gone to the tyre shop and bought them from their. I guess now times are harder etc it comes down a little.

Is the Toyo TR1 known for being a good tyre? I have no traction control etc and lots of old school power from a big turbo... Is there anything else out there in this price range which would stick better? Also is there anything with the same kind of performance that last longer? I used to run Goodyear F1's and they griped well but would only do around 5000 for a set on the rear of my old M3 frown

I get 225/40/18 T1R's for my S2 from Camskill, £90/corner usually, and easy to find somebody that will fit them for £10/corner.

Just checked and they're Y rated, but i don't intend to go >186mph any time soon.

If I bought Y rated, would a tyre shop fit them to a Escort Cosworth? I will keep the bonnet closed so they dont know its moded

I don't see why they'd care or how they'd know how fast your car is capable of travelling, not that you should be doing >70mph on the roads anyway wink

You could fit N-rated if you wanted, it just wouldn't be a clever idea to take them over 81mph.

The Falkens are old hat now, even the new FK453 isn't anything special:

Can't go that wrong with any of the top 15th (avoid Kumho and Nexen), the "new" Falken is the Fulda SportControl IMHO. Great little tyre for similar money.

Per tyre? Wtf. You have seen what is involved in fitting a tyre?

Last time I bought some 452s the person I bought them off wanted £12 each for fitting. I told him to F.O. Went to my local tyre house and they wanted £10! I expected between £5-8 per tyre for the 10minutes of work it takes.

Rip off.

Kumho KU39 - "Poor steering feel, long wet and dry braking, high fuel consumption, poor wear."

I'm not sure I agree with your statement wink

T1Rs are good tyre, which wear a little quicker than most due to the softer compound.

FK452s are dangerous and have had multiple cases of the sidewall de-laminating on the inside. This then can lead to blow outs. Avoid if you value your car and life.
Sorted that for you!

T1-R have now been superseded by the T1 Sports

£150 a corner for the T1 Sports... leading towards them at the moment so they kind of match the Toyos on the front....
