I am contemplating buying a Skoda Fabia VRS, when I sell the 330ci I should have £3k for one.

Firstly how do they compare to a Golf GT Tdi as they have the same engine but I could get a decent one for £2k.

Secondly what are the weak points and common issue I should look out for a the VRS

When I was eciding between the two I went VRS. You wont get much of one for 3K though. GTi is mega more, unrealistic dosh. VRS is more fun and more rock and roll in the handling department, although this can be dialled out easily. VRS can be mampped too, mine's running a 'mild' 160/400Nm

Both can be mapped. I bought a Vrs new and had no problems. They seem to hold prices now so are not so much of a bargain. They were under 11 grand brand new on the net. Vrs is actually based on a Polo. Octavia is based on a golf.

You can pick a VRS up for ~£4K if you wait. Plenty on the trader.

Usual VAG problems possible. Drive & service with mechanical sympathy and likelihood will reduce I'm sure

What are these usual VAG issues to look out for?

Some seem to look quite "meaty" and some look a bit plain, I cant realy spot why as not seen two side by side.

DMF, DPF (although the MK1 VRS doesn't have one smile), injectors, turbo, camshafts...
