I usually use Turtle Wax 'wash n wax' but I've recently been using this Simoniz and it's really good. Two capfuls makes a big bucket which can also be topped up while staying soapy. It was very cheap too on offer, I don't remember where. Halfords I expect.

Costco sell the Siminoz stuff in 5 litres and Turtle Wax in 25 litres. Someone bought me the latter and I'm not sure I will finish it in my lifetime :-)

Turtle Wax Zip Wax stuff is pretty good, but I normally use the AutoGlym stuff smile

Asda were selling that for about £4 for 5l a while back.

For me it is Duragloss 901. Its the best, IMO and I have tried many.

As Sonic has pointed out this is bar far the best shampoo on the market, £30 a gallon (US) but you only need a little in the bucket. 1 tub lasts us a year, washing 3 cars weekly.

I'm an avid detailer and have many shampoos from the likes of Meguiars, Autoglym etc. However, I have also tried that Simoniz tuff and it is truly fantastic! While it may not surpass most premium brands, it still gives brilliant results. They had 5L jugs on offer the other week for 3 euro each. I bought 25 jugs! hehe

I use it as a first wash when doing a really badly contaminated car. It's also brilliant in the snowfoam gun, and is great on fabrics too.

I will admit though, the rest of Simoniz' range is utter pants. Dash wipes?! Eurgh!

I keep hearing it's bad for the paint etc, etc, & etc but I've been using washing up liquid for the last 30 odd years without the world caving in.

Its not bad as such, its just a degreaser, i.e gets grease off your kitchen wok.

Any wax on your car this would just strip off. If you don't wax your car then its not a problem, it will never hurt the paint as such but you will never have any protection on the car either.

With regards to the post; the best car shampoo by a country mile is Dodo Juice Born to be Mild. Its not 'cheap' but you only need one capful for a very large bucket.

Hyperwash does make for good snow foam though; but you have to be really in the mood to foam a car. A good blast should get rid of most surface dirt; a foam is only necessary on really dirty or dusty cars.

There is no lubricant with washing up liquid so you may swirl your paint. Some cheap brands have strong alkaline content that really degrades rubber seals and plastics.

Also I only use foam now and a good foaming, then left to dwell means only a rinse off without touching the car at all.

If it's really dirty then it gets done twice and the second time some shampoo mixed in.

Less contact with a wash mitt less swirls.

Newer car clear coats really are crap.

I agree regarding the swirl marks; but in my experience I have never found that just a foam will do. Even if you foam leave and re-foam, I still find surface dirt on the car, which then if I went straight to a towel dry, let alone start buffing in some Z8 or Red Mist would lead to swirl marks in the car.
