My girlfriend is a carer - caring for the elderly. She has to move between old people's places in her car and is paid to do so. This apparently requires business class 1 insurance (which we have in place). Now, she's been asked to drive one of her old people to the shops etc as part of her job. Would this be covered with business class 1, or would it be considered for hire or reward? She's not paid extra for this trip (other than claiming mileage) - she will be paid her normal hourly wage and the old person isn't paying her directly.

I can't work out which it should come under and admiral weren't overly helpful!! We've tried calling them, but they literally said 'we don't know' and weren't overly keen to help/find out!

Any ideas whether this is covered under Class 1 or not?!

Yes it's class one business use. Not hire and reward because taking the person to the shops is part of her overall job that she is paid for, she isn't rewarded specifically for that journey (other than expenses).

If she didn't take the old person to the shops, she wouldn't be any financially worse off.

each insurance company may differ so you should really call up her insurer and ask

saying that some blokes off t'internet said it would be ok is not a viable defence.
