Hi I've got an old Toyota Carina 1.8e that I'm fixing up at the moment and the front washer jets are just dribbling a tiny amount of water rather than squirting properly. I can hear the bottle pump whirring away but I'm not getting any pressure from it. I've cleaned out all the tubing with compressed air and cleaned the actual jet nozzles so I'm sure there's no blockages.

Just before I go and buy a new pump, could I get a second opinion from someone to see if there's anything else I could be missing? Strangely enough, the same pump powers the rear washer jet adequately so I'm guessing the switching mechanism between front and rear lines is playing up perhaps.

I don't know if it's anything to do with it, but I noticed that the rear pipe line attaches to a second pump away from the bottle that is wired in parallel with the first pump. I don't hear this whirring when either front or rear washers are activated but then it might just be drowned out by the bottle pump.

Thanks for any suggestions!

sure there isn't a leak anywhere? If you disconnect the tubing at the pump do you get a forceful flow ?

There's often a mesh filter at the pump inlet which gets blocked by congealed washer fluid.

Have seen that problem a few time, which causes this fault. Would check that. Maybe try give the washer jets a blow out to.

Also check how much voltage is going to the pump

Milton (or any Supermarket...) Sterilising Fluid can produce results fairly quickly wink if the suggestions upthread don't make the grade.

Get a sterilising fluid solution in your washer bottle then lean on the washer button (it's nasty stuff, if you're a microbe or group thereof!), then refill when it's empty smile .

Thanks everyone for your suggestions. I finally fixed it today and discovered that it was the second pump that was causing the problem so I simply removed it and replaced the tubing connected to it and now everything is working fine! Thanks again for all the good suggestions!
