Yeah I know most people won't read these but please, the car must.....

  • be a daily driver through the winter until next summer when it'll be used for the honeymoon
  • be reliable as a daily driver!
  • budget around 10 grand give or take
  • be female friendly-no fixed back bucket seats or rollcages....
  • as I'd like to get swmbo in the thing on the wedding day & drive from the church to the venue
  • be the type of thing you'd want to use on all those stunning French roads like the route napoleon
  • look the part pulling up in Monaco
  • possibly be a convertible
Read my profile of you want to see the types of stuff I own/ed & like

XJS Convertable, might struggle on the winter daily driving front though.

Why not get a boring car for this winter and the XJS next year?

I took mine down to Monaco. The only thing I have to say is find one with AC. There was a heatwave when we were there and temperatures were in the mid 30s!

Putting together similar plans myself, apart from we'll be doing a trip to the Italian lakes then back through Europe.

Car of choice: XK8, or perhaps XKR if I can stretch to it.

Although she'd rather do it in a TT rolleyes. It's just not the same.

That budget (or very slightly more) will get you a well sorted Rolls Royce Silver Shadow.

Reliable - check
Daily driver - check
Female friendly - check
SWMBO will look the part - check
Suitable for epic drives - check

Heavy on fuel, but depreciation free (return to the UK and sell it for near what you paid), and can be insured on a classic policy.

And there are few finer ways to arrive in Monaco...

P.S. I know it doesn't match your profile but I'll throw it out there anyway

6 series must be close to that sort of budget now. Sl merc likewise, or a clk?

Not as focused as your profile but ideal for wafting and your new wife wouldn't spend the entire time complaining about the car?

Just got back form a road trip in the wife's MX5 (MK2) and was amazed at the reception it got. Loads of french people looking over it and asking what it was and people gawping at it on the motorways as they passed us.

Doesn't really answer your question as such but reminded me that you don't have to have something expensive to look the part it would seem.

6 series cab is actually very much on the radar, even though my mates reckon it'll age me by a good 15 years biggrin

This would be epic, but I think I'd be slightly terrified at the thought of using it as a daily. Through winter.
