....those after-market straps that used to hang down under cars back in the 1980s?

Weren't they supposed to cure motion sickness or something?

I ask now because my 4 year old kid can get a bit car-sick when the going gets twisty.

I think people realised that they don't work.

I'm sorry to hear that. Those things were pretty effective at curing the symptoms you describe, and coincidentally I saw them for sale in....

They were anti-static strips, to stop you getting shocks off your car.

At least, the things I'm thinking of are. Never heard of anti car sickness straps?
Those are the thing - they were sold as an "anti-car-sickness" device, although they had absolutely no effect on it as far as I could tell. They were quite effective at stopping you from getting zapped by the car in dry weather, though.

This quality website will sell you one for 20 USD smile

If they actually do anything useful I'd be amazed.

I thought someone had fitted one to my car, turns out it was just all the stuff dangling down that the garage couldn't be bothered to fix back up properly after the work on my car last week.

Amazon has them for £5.00.

They may work for motion sickness as a placebo, a lot of motion sickness is psychological.

I thought they were intended to stop you getting a shock... forgetting that the tyres did a pretty good job of that!?

I thought they were an anti-static thing too.

Thinking about it, they should fit them to the trolleys in supermarkets. Push one of those things accross a vinyl floor and you'll soon find out where I'm coming from.

Usually an audible zap...

Weirdly... I've not had a static shock for ages, used to be quick a regular thing!
