How to get free previous owner check?

Hope this is in the right category, couldn't find one specific for this category...

A few years ago you could do a free online vehicle check, and you would get a previous owner check included for free. Now the free online checks only give you very basic information, such as make and model which you will probably know anyway. So is there anyway to get a FREE previos owner check?

Put the reg in to we buy any car website or similar.

When you actually go to buy the car you can check the V5. But talking to the seller before going to view the car, I have in previous experiences been lied to, (On cars with lots of previous owners) So I believe if someone will lie to me about the previous owners then I wouldn't really trust the seller at all, and not really a point in wasting money on a HPI straight away.
