A friend, who is a Driving Instructor, has a 2 year old Clio with the 1.5 Dci engine, which exhibited acceleration without human intervention on numerous occasions, both with them and students driving , which of course is very unsettling and dangerous.

Despite numerous visits to the Renault dealer 'no fault existed', and the usual 'floor mats jammed under the throttle' excuse trotted out (no mats were fitted after incident 1....).

They happened to be leaving the car for a service recently, and overhead a man complaining it was the 5th time his Megane 1.5 Dci had been in for unintended acceleration.

After collaring the Service Manager, he admitted that 'a small amount of 1.5Dci engined vehicles exhibit this issue, which is known to Renault UK, and this engine had been withdrawn'.

After a short, but pointed, discussion with the Dealer Principal, they have been offered a straight swap for a brand new Clio, with the new diesel engine, to my way of thinking Renault UK want to hush this up.

If anyone has experienced this issue with a 1.5 Dci engined vehicle, start complaining now, and let us know how you get on.

Isn't that 1.5DCi engine in absolutely loads of cars? Renaults and Nissans too?

Not a DCI I know but my 172 was doing that and it was because of a sticking throttle body and dodgy idle control valve.
