Bit of fun for the anoraks which cars have the highest top speed relative to their bhp.

Id start of by saying the Mclaren F1.

I'm not sure that makes sense, or if I understand the question correctly.

If a Ford KA can get to ~100mph with 60bhp, then a McLaren F1 would need to be about 150bhp to have a higher relative top speed?

This will be won by something with very low power and a nice aero shape.

Me thinks this thread will be full of bikes. hehe

If concepts are allowed, the Mercedes C111 managed 251mph with 500bhp back in the 70s.

The 1.2 Diesel Audi A2 does fairly well as modern cars go - 54bhp and 104mph = 1.93mph/bhp. smile

Are you trying to fail miserably at your own game?

I beat you easily with a 1.0 fiesta.

I was just about to post that, I worked on finding a car with the lowest drag coefficient and saw that one was an easy one to work out smile

But I hadn't gone through the really low ones - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Automobile_drag_coeff...

I'm about 0.5bhp and managed to get 28mph on my push bike only yesterday.

The mk1 Insight will probably do quite well.

ETA: 66bhp and 112mph, so not as good as the A2. Possibly the only time the Insight has ever been "too powerful". hehe

My old Moped had 6.2bhp and could do 50mph on the flat. 8mph per bhp!

A pro cyclist can hit 45mph on the flat and according to Wikipedia a athlete has 2.5bhp.

Just throwing it in for fun.

Depends. That's roughly how much work it does all day long.

They can put out a lot more than 1.

he says cars, and let's assume they are cars that can be used by humans for transportation ;-)

A2 1.2 TDI the winner?

Anything with 2 wheels is not a car.

HTH...

The original 2CV hit 40mph with 9bhp. 4.4 mph/bhp, beating the F1 by some margin biggrin

So how much force does one horse have? Is 1 bhp an average power that one horse would put out over 5-10 hrs ?

MPH/BHP, it's going to be something slow and low-powered. Drag increases with the square of speed, so it'll be something with a low cD, that's not very powerful.

128MPH from 115bhp in a Calibra is my nomination.

1.113mph/bhp

compared to the F1 @ 0.35mph/bhp.

The winner will be something crap like an old Panda or something laugh
Yep! Got 105 mph (off the clock) out of my parents old 2wd one once (45 bhp), 105/45 = 2.33 mph/bhp biggrin
