Just another thing I won't understand about humanity, I suspect.

So at ASDA, late in the evening, empty car park. I park suitably far away from the doors so that the various asshats of society won't be tempted to ding my door.

I return to see this:

And just to show there were hundreds of spaces closer to the shop:

I understand why people like to park near others, but parking in a way that inconveniences them? They now need to be careful opening their door. Why not park 1 space away, or opposite me? Why literally NEXT to me, which is awkward for us both?

Some people, ay?

I think it's because it's easier to park your car straight and in a parking space if you can use another car to judge your position rather than using the white lines only.

Pick a car that's correctly parked, park next to them, in line front-to-back and a comfortable distance away, and you're correctly parked as well - job done!

Companionship, they can chat whilst you shop.
Or, the owner can pretend to own a drop dead cool nissan 370 as they stroll back towards their micra, jangling their keys and basking in the reflected glory and adulation of passing totty.Maybe.

It's been said before, but in simple terms, the Citroen owner is thinking "if I park next to that penis-extension, they'll break into that and not my little chuggybug"...

Also - it's easier for some people to park next to another car than it is for them to work out those white line things...

There was a thread about this recently, where some people admitted they do it to piss others off.

Simple - no one likes to damage their door hinges by opening the door too wide.

by parking next to another car have a safety 'bump stop' to prevent you opening the door too wide

you hear a helpful 'DINK' to indicate the door is as wide as it can be given your current position.

Really? They had a choice of 11 spaces in our section, none of the others would have involved them parking their Micra next to another car...

Doesn't surprise me.

As I've said before, its easy to park straight in an empty space - simply open your door and see if your car lines up with the line.
