The wife has a new 3 series coupe last year, and it's 1st service was recently due she went over the service indicator millage by 180 miles! I rang up on her behalf and explained and they said not to worry you are allowed up to 1000 miles. So it was booked in and serviced etc and now a week later we received a letter stating that she had exceed the service interval millage and that her warranty is no longer valid! i had just got off the phone to them and they have told me it is at their discretion weather they will allow the warranty to still stand if you exceed the millage and that they would not use their discretion in this case because, the service intervals are calculated by how the car is driven and her car has calculated it at a much lower millage than usual indicating the car has been driven excessively hard!

if its been driven within the limits of the engine, then its not "excessively hard" IMO

PS as this is Pistonheads.....the only bit you've spelt correctly the title is "BMW" smile

I'd ring BMW Customer Services rather than the dealer. Sounds like they are trying it on and could be an unreasonable contract term - 180 miles over, on say a 10,000 service interval is <2% variance - hardly enough to invalidate a warranty.

If there policy is it must be serviced within 1000 miles of the indicator for the warantee be still in effect then it dosnt matter how hard the car is driven. Or are they saying they can't trust the parts they use as they would have been tested to their extreams.

This seems highly unusual. There must be more to this story.

How many miles has the car done? If she pitched up with it on 5k miles from new yet overdue a service then you'd need to have abused the car to within an inch of its life to get that. If she turned up with it showing 15180 miles then frankly the behaviour of the dealer is most bizarre.

Make the dealer walk through a CGI room with some swinging blades with a bucket on their head.

Well, the dealer certainly has adopted a cavalier attitude towards the situation....
