Fuel Theft

Hi all. My mum filled her car with petrol last night ready to go out on a day trip today. She got up early this morning to set off and found the car has had its fuel line cut over night and all the fuel has been stolen. I know that fuel theft is not unusual these days but this is the first time that ive heard of it done this way. Is this how its done these days and is there anyway to prevent it happening again ?

some man up the road from me kept having his oil tank emptied, he lay in wait with his shotgun one night and caught the boyo red handed

he gave him a bloody good beaten and then tied him up and called the police
