Seriously who here favors Diesels over Petrol engines ?
Not in finacial terms or mpg i mean as a the whole Diesel engine concept ?

In my eyes are petrolcars like sprinters.. they are quick but their thirst will stop them in terms of endurance (reach).
Thoughts ?

Depends on the car to be honest.

I really like my Audi 3.0tdi. Smooth, good torque - it suits the barge and long hauls, but fast enough to have some barge fun, and being a V6 it's a little smoother than a cyl diesel.

In my MX5 the peaky petrol 2.0 is perfect...

Petrol cars are like eagles, soaring quietly, high above the cruddy stinking noisy cesspit of diesels.

Depends what you want your car for.

As a sportscar, I would want it to be a quick to respond and to rev. I would want a rapier.

To tow something big, The JLR V8 deisel is spot on - for that I would want a broadsword!

My A4 TDI munchs up motorway miles effortlessly and comfortably and gives 50+mpg. It does all I want it to do but you'd never call it 'exciting'.

For lazy driving I love my 4.4TDV8.

Very low revs on the motor way (so quiet), and acceleration is there whatever the revs.

I drive a diesel Golf as a commuter box, it makes a lot of sence to me for that duty. NA petrol with a proper manual gearbox will always make a better drives car though IMHO.

Why? It's a valid question... posted in general gassing... and it's Pistonheads, not Petrolheads.

It's something that comes up once a week.

So? If you don't like a thread, pick another one to read or ask the mods to consolidate into one... smile

Indeed, it's just that in the south of the UK at least, it isn't very often the Petrols time or place........... ;-)

Ah, this weeks diesel thread. OK.

Well, I'd say no-one particularly 'favours' one over the other, but that many such as myself like both and think they're best suited to different tasks.

Oh, oh, oh, I have a question.

What's better, FWD or RWD? Or even 4WD??

but nothing like as smooth and fast as the supercharged V6 3L from the S4

ignoring the MPG, why would you buy the diesel?
