Buying a car - logbook not in keepers name
Discussion
Hi all
Pretty sure I know the answer before I ask but...
Going to look at a car shortly (£500 runaround) and the owner says he has owned the car a few weeks (bought to sell on), has the logbook, but it is not in his name.
I asked whose name its in, he says the previous owner. I asked why he hasn't changed it over, he replied "i Just haven't because I wasn't keeping it long".
My immediate reaction - don't touch it. Anyone any other advice/POV?
Thanks

The registered keeper is not necessarily the owner of a vehicle.
That said, if you have any doubts over the deal, then walking away may well be your safest bet.
Wonder whether the current keeper would be happy for you to contact the RK with a view to confirming the status of the vehicle ?

Cheers guys. We (its for my girlfriend) didn't buy it.
It was one of those situations where there were lots of niggles. One of them you can overlook, all of them together start to make you feel something is amiss...
- Logbook not in keepers name
- Logbook had top right section ripped out (think this is the "sold to trader, scrapped" etc section)
- Previous owner was a Japanese manufacturing company in London, but the seller said he bought it off a private owner locally (we are not local to London)
- Did a quick check, car was a Cat C, passed a VIC in 2006
There will be others out there for the money with less niggles than this.
Thanks
