I have a 2008 330D and the warning light has came on saying the DPF is partially blocked. Im looking at getting it taken out or cleaned but when i have looked in to it some of the sites are saying delete, Does the actual filter need to be removed or can you trick the ECU in to letting it pass the soot through?
Has anyone on here got a e90 330d which they have had the dpf removed and had it mapped? What is it running like now, MPG increase, More power etc?

Thanks

Krikkit

Decent thread on E90post about it. Looks like a good option, not too ridiculous for cost either!

So when they say DPF delete are they just deleting the software or actually removing the DPF from the exhaust?

What ever you do try and get rid of the system totally.

You need to do both - the problems people have are because the physical dpf is blocking up and impeding flow of exhaust gasses. Software wont deal with this.

Not a BM but a Lexus IS diesel, getting dpf delete done at the moment. 3 hour job, take dpf off, knock through, reprogrammed the brain, and voila! 500 notes. Sounds too good to be true. Let's see.

I'd try anything I could before deciding to get a dpf delete done, after spending a lot of money on a nice car, I'm not too sure I could cope with clouds of black smoke bellowing out the exhaust when you floor it without a dpf. I've got a 330d and am hoping my dpf doesn't fail, spends a lot of time on the motorway, so hope it lasts.

Could I get a new front pipe from an earlier model bmw ( I think earlier e90's dont have a dpf) and fit that.
Im looking for the easiest way really, Its for my dad who's so hes not really after getting a lot of work done but hes willing to get a remap if its the best option.
Looking at the non dpf pipes on ebay, their about £380 which seems a bit steep to be honest.

Part of modern cars, and BMW's aswell, are expensive-ish parts, unfortunately. You might be able to get a custom solution sorted, but it'll all cost much of a muchness.

If you get rid of the dbf filter you need to change the engine management I have looked into it on my Alfa. For me I can't delete dbf filter if it is recovery mode due to filter bunged up. I have to buy a fresh filter and then throw it away! Deleting the dbf won't make you car turn into a mobile smoker.

DPF - Diesel Partiulate Filter?? Or is it something different on an Alfa? Genuine question...

The smoke isn't a problem really, seen them on youtube and theres not much difference plus my dad isn't really bothered he only uses it for work, (mainly city driving) uses his other cars on an evening etc.
Might have a look about and try get the DPF removed somewere then get the software removed and remap.

Afraid not. Mine went, loss of power, light on, tried some long fast runs but once they're blocked they're fked.

Replacement was £1500, luckily covered by warranty.

I would have removed it had it not been covered, and they agreed to check it every year for build up and regenerate if necessary.

Shame they didn't have the option when new.

Delete DPF
Delete Runflats.

Surely these dpf cars are going to have poor residuals in future ?

Who is going to take a punt on say a £5000 car that could need a £1500 part at any minute ?

(ok ok I know an engine can go etc etc but it just seems more likely to have a dpf issue going by all the posts)

DPF solutions will become more prevailent across more cars as the second hand Market receives them. So more popular solution would be to replace and re-flash the software, more firms will offer the service = lower cost. So any problems you have, would be sorted out by a £500-600 mornings work.
