I recently bought a Peugeot 106 which has an after market head unit fitted (Sony GTX-GT25), I'm having some problems with it.

Every time I turn it on it goes to 80.5FM (Or something like that), I then tune it to 98.6 and listen to Radio 1. If I then turn the ignition off and back on it goes back to 80.5FM and I have to retune.

It didn't come with a manual but I found one on the Sony website which says I can save channels on the numbered buttons by going to the frequency I want and holding down the number until 'memory' comes up on the screen. If I do this then turn the ignition off and back on it goes back to default and what I saved to memory is no longer there.

What am I doing wrong? confused

The ignition live and permanent live wires on the radio wiring loom need swapped.

Pull the unit out and yu will see a red and yellow wire, both with bullet connections. Swap them, refit the plastic protective sheath and refit the radio.

Sounds easy, thank you.

Is it possible to remove the head unit without the keys? I've never really played around with in car stereo stuff so this is new to me. smile

Unlikely, It would be worth nipping into a car accessory shop and asking nicely!

You could probably get keys on ebay for a few quid as they come free with the unit at time of purchase.

Unfortunately I got rid of my radio keys ages ago (used to fit all that sort of stuff years back) otherwise I'd have been happy to post a set to you.

Good luck anyway, it should be an easy fix.

It might also be due to a poor contact or break in the permanent live feed. Whichever it is, the radio doesnt have a live connection when the ignition is turned off and as a result it isnt retaining the frequency.

Thanks. If the problem remains once I've tried swapping the wires over ill crack the multimeter out.

This sorted it, perfect now. Thanks.

(Managed to get keys from Halfords, £5! But cant complain too much, no where else is open on a Sunday)
