My girlfriends brother is thinking of learning to drive; the main problem we think he will have is finding a car that he can comfortably drive as he is 7' tall.

He can fit into the passenger seat of her Ibiza with no real issue, however the addition of the steering wheel plus the pedals makes it difficult for him to sit in the drivers seat.

The spacing of the pedals is also a consideration as he has size 18 feet.

Does anyone here have any experience in this type of problem? As he is not quite 21 and a learner driver the insurance will be a prime consideration

tell him to try a smart car. I'm 6'6" and seemed to have a decent amount of room around me

I have a mate who's 6'10" and drives a Clio. Never could fathom how he manages. I 'only' have size 12 feet and seem to struggle with some peddals..... Not really much help think he just needs need to try a few.

The Ka has massive head room and decent leg room too. I'm 6' 5" and had no problems driving our old Sporthandbag.

Ignis Sport if he can afford to insure it, very tall because of the car its based on, I'm 6ft and have lots more room to spare than I have in most cars.

Avoid anything with a sunroof, it lowers the roof quite a bit. I'm 6ft 4" and have no issues with most stuff including my Clio although I have tiny feet (size 9) which is why I fall over a lot.

I have a friend who is 6 foot 7" who drove a MK1 XR2 until recently although he never looked overly comfortable in it.

Worth a look. I hired a Note last month and it seemed very spacious for the driver.

Old beemer of some description might fit the bill. I'm 6'5' and I vaguely remember having to move the seat a way forward in an E46

I don't think there is a 'correct' answer - he'll have to try some out.

For example I know some tall people who can drive an Elise (one 6ft 6) and then a mate of mine (just over 7ft and built quite big) struggled with a lot of saloon cars including a new BMW 6 series or 7 series.

He ended up getting an XC90 and was fine with that.

at 6ft7 I could fit into a smart for2 and have Bags of room. though if he wants huge a LHD 450 smart coupe (pre for2)! I couldn't touch the pedals and at 7foot he can reach across out the window to get tickets / drive through. The passenger seat slides 3 inches further back as the engine is on the right and the gearbox is on the left with loads of room.

cheap too

What shoe size is he? I'm 6'4, size 12, and was thinking of getting one as a first car, then I sat in a Saxo (same car) and I just couldn't get comfortable at all with the pedals.

Land rover discovery has lots of leg and headroom. Not sure what the insurance would be like though for a first time driver.
