Sort of a what car thread

My car is up for sale end of this month and looking to get around £4k for it. With this money i could do 2 things:
1) Plough that money straight into an Audi TT or MCS
or
2) Pay off the outstanding loan of £2k and use the remaining £2k for something cheap and cheerful and fun to drive around, as im looking to reduce my outgoings and use the extra money each month to save for a house deposit.
Im tempted on the second option and did give an intial thought of a MK4 Golf GTI, Cupra, 172/182, 206GTI, or a leggy E36 or E46? Something that would take a bit of neglect apart from annual servicing.
Problem is im 30 and dont want to fall into the Chav mobile territory? Note that the loan monthly outgoings are not massive each month so i'd also happily take the MCS or TT option.
